Brian Folus is Principal Bassist for the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra and a frequent guest conductor. He is the Music Director of the Harford Youth Orchestra and has also been a guest clinician, conductor, and adjudicator for several Maryland county school systems. In the world of higher education, he is on the Music Faculty at Harford Community College and serves as an adjunct instructor at Towson University and University of Delaware, supervising interns during their field placements. In the summer, Folus conducts the Concert Strings Orchestra for the Elizabethtown College Music Camp. He taught instrumental music in Harford County, Maryland for 34 years before retiring in June 2019. He received his Bachelor of Music Education in 1985 from Towson University and earned his Master of Music degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1993. Folus completed an additional 30 graduate credits at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has studied conducting with Dr. Leigh M. Martinet, Mr. Raymond Moore, and Maestro Leonid Grin. His arrangement of “Symphony No. 1” by William Boyce was published in 2004 by Highland-Etling Publishers, the String Orchestra division of Alfred Music Publishing. He lives in Bel Air, Maryland with his wife Tammy and their children.
